newbie needs help- NI DAQ/LABVEW

I want to obtain a voltage output of 5V at the analog output of DAQ 6020E(BNC). It comes with a free software NI DAQ . Can i use NI DAQ to program the DAQ and obtain the output voltage, if i dont have Lab windows/ vb/ vc++ installed in my computer? Is Labview essential ?

With any of those languages, you can program your DAQ board. Newer DAQ boards ship with a free program called Signal Express that allows you to create simple acquisition setups and use certain types of external instruments. Your old board is not supported by Signal Express though. There used to be a different program shipped (VI Logger?) with traditional DAQ boards but I have no idea if it still is or whether it is still available.

Hello Poli,

Dennis is correct; you may program the card using any of the languages you listed.  I also wanted to add that if you only want a constant DC voltage of +5 volts then you could just power the card and use the +5 volt pins directly off the DAQ 6020E.  For more complex output you'll need to choose a programming environment (LabVIEW is a possibility here, not a necessity) so that you can call DAQ functions/VIs.

Cheers,

Brooks
