Hello Joan,

The IMAQ for USB driver is a fairly old, non-robust, and unsupported driver that was made for the purpose of USB cameras before they were added into the supported IMAQdx driver in 2009.

NI Adds USB Camera Support with 2009 Software

If you are looking to use multiple USB webcams, then I would highly suggest upgrading to at least 2009 software versions to be able to utilize the IMAQdx driver. The reason is that the IMAQ for USB driver only supports a single acquisition from one device at a time.

If you are still determined to use the IMAQ for USB driver with your current versions, then the following KBs will be able to help diagnose your issue.

Thank you so much for your help. I don't know Labview 8.2.1 belong to which year. Can i update to 2009 software for free?

I still want to see how IMAQ for USB work with my current version. Can you tell me which software i need to install first. My computer have Labview 8.2.1 and the other drivers installed before. I was thinking i need to install the VAS x.x, VDMx.x and ni_imaq_usb_installer_86.exe. Is this right? Please let me know. Thanks.

LabVIEW 8.2.1 was probably from early 2007.

No, I'm sure you can't upgrade for free.

Thanks for help. Do you know how much NI charge for upgrade?

Now I tried to reinstall some softwares.  I tried to install VAS 8.0 first. After installed i got IMAQ 1394 in Vision and Motion of Functions (Is this right?). Then i installed VDM8.0, I choose to install Labview support feature this time, then I got this message:" The NI Vision 8.0 installation has failed with the following error. Error 1334. The file Image control plug In.DLL.960BB23E-726A-46F5-A63A- 340570FAAE29 cannot be installed, because the file cannot be found in cabinet file"m3,cab".

I am thinking i didn't have right software installed or didn't not choose right feature when i installed. That is why i got installation failed or after installed I can not find the VI. Please help. Thanks a lot

Joan,

This error that you are seeing is most likely relating to the fact that you have incompatible versions of LabVIEW and NI-Vision.

Compatible Versions of Vision Development Module with LabVIEW

NI-IMAQ, NI-IMAQdx, and VAS Compatibility with Different LabVIEW Versions

As per the previous KBs I have linked, NI-Vision 8.0 is not compatible with LabVIEW 8.2.1.

Also, the correct order of installation is: LabVIEW >> Toolkits/Modules >> Drivers

Installing in a different order can lead to errors and incorrect behavior.

As for your inquiries about pricing and upgrades, you should contact the Sales Department by going to www.ni.com/contact
