null data set from USB4000

To whom it may concern,

I am trying to use my OceanOptics USB4000 spectrometer within Labview2010.

Things used to work fine, however after playing with some drivers for another device, my USB4000 was no longer recognized by LabView. I did manage to communicate with my USB4000 again, however now I only receive null data sets (ie. an array of zeros is stored instead of my spectra counts). The labview program seems to be working otherwise, however the data it receives and stores is not correct.

I checked the USB4000 with another PC using SpectraSuite from Ocean Optics and the spectrometer works fine.

I tried re-installing all drivers and following the troubleshooting guide provided by Ocean Optics -- no luck.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Cody

Hi Cody,

Are you using the plug-and-play drivers from the National Instruments website? http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=9423

You can also use the LabVIEW built-in driver tool to easily install them to the right location (inside labview >> Help >> Find Instrument Drivers...).

The above driver is a plug-and-play driver, which means they make the device easier to use for the end user by taking care of all of the lower level VISA commands.  However, you still need to install the low-level device driver so that the device is recognized in windows and NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  Does the spectrometer show up in MAX under "Devices and Interfaces"?

Which drivers have you installed?  Can you link to their locations?

Here is some general information about USB instrument control: https://learn.ni.com/learn/article/getting-started-with-instrument-control-hardware-and-labview
