plz need help about serial port

Can I receive brain signal within less than 500 msec using serial port?
If not, What is the best method for doing that?

You will definetly need to give more details. What exact signals are you looking for? What is the hardware setup that you got?

what is the data rate you are using for the serial port also please give more details about your hardware setup ....

And i would suggest you to look into DAQ cards by NI for acquiring signals.

As others have mentionned, you need to provide more details.

Obviously, you cannot interface directly to the brain using RS-232.  

What electrodes / signal conditioning / ADC  interfaces with the surface where the signals are scanned.

Does that device provide an RS-232 interface?  (ie: MAX232 chip, dB9 connector or other).

As for sampling the serial port every 500ms, absolutely.  You can even sample much faster than that.   However, the limitation may be at the sampling end.

Are you planning to build the entire thing?
