pxi 8145rt

I am working on a school project where i am using a pxi 1031 chassis with a pxi 8145 rt to measure thermocouples, The program was working fine til today i lost connection with the RT.  I have reset it several times, restarted my computer and checked wires.  the link light is on on the chassis, but i still cannot get it to reconnect in max.  Any ideas? thanks

I've been messing with my system a bit more, and not really sure how i did it, as i was trying the same things as before (resetting the module) but i now have gotten max to recognize the system.  However, I still cannot get my rt project to connect to it. When i try to open any of the tabs under it in the max window, my computer tries for a while then geives me the message that it has timed out.  How do i fix this?

Hi mcspeedy,

Some suggestions for troubleshooting RT-host connection issues:

  1. Turn off the firewall on the host computer.
  2. Is the PXI on the network? To remove any possible networking issues from the problem, try using a crossover cable.
  3. Using a crossover cable? See this: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/72AE8CADA1AF075686256A16005D55B1?OpenDocument
  4. Reformat controller and reinstall software.
  5. Multiple network cards in the PXI system? Try using just the NIC in the controller.
  6. Can you ping the PXI from the host computer?
  7. This document is a nearly catch-all resource: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5403

Hope this helps!

I have disabled my firewall, and can ping the PXI with no problems. There is only one network card in my PXI system  The PXI is showing up in MAX as connected and running.  However if i click the plus next to any of the sub-option (data neighborhood, devices and interfaces, scales, or software) the computer thinks for a little then nothing pops up under the options.  I tried to install software by clicking the add/remove software button and after a bit got the error " The operation could not be completed. Operation failed with error code: 56    Possible reason(s):  Timed out while communicating with remote target"  I looked at the document you posted but it went straight from the PXI showing up in MAX to installing software which is where my problem is.

Hi Zach,

Windows' firewalls are fickle sometimes. Try enabling the firewall, but specifically naming MAX to your "always allow" list.

Can you right-click the PXI in MAX and select "Format disk"? Then try installing software again.

Are there any other real-time PXI's on the network which you can see in MAX? Do they have the same problem?

Can you use another computer to install software to the PXI target, in case your MAX program is corrupted?
