"Failure creating item.Please Contact NI"

My problem is that DAQ Assist is missing in my Input Signals Pallet. I noticed it was missing after I installed Ni-DAQmx Base. A Related problem is in the Window "SignalExpress DAQmx Steps" I get an Initialization Error and message: " Failure creating item. Please contact National Instruments." I considered removing all NI software and reinstalling but I do not see how that can be done as it is not all listed in my Control Panel list of installed software.

My USB DAQ appears to be working corectly.

I would appreciate information about what is wrong and how to fix it.

There's an entry in the Control Panels Add/Remove Software named "National Instruments Software". All the NI applications (since version 7.0?) will be in the singel entry. Click on it and click the Change button and a dialog will open with all the individule applications listed.

It sounds like something got messed up in the DAQmx driver. Scroll down in the list until you see "NI-DAQmx 7.x". Click on that and hit the 'Repair' button. You'll need your driver CDs or the downloaded files from NIs website. Doing a repair will attempt to fix anything that's been messed up. You could try the same with the "NI LabVEW 7.x" entry.

I have now removed and reinstalled the labview 7.1 software and the NI-DAQ mx driver paying attentions to details without any success. DAQ Assist continues to be missing from the input pallet and I have no idea of why. Example program such as "Cont Acq & Graph Voltage - Int Clk.vi" have errors (e.g., "sub VI is not execuable")so that approach has not succeded either.

If you could comment on the possibility of downloading a copy of DAQ Assist vi, that might help.

The DAQ assistant uses DAQmx full, and will not be available if you have DAQmx Base.
DAQmx base is a cut down version of DAQmx and might be the reason why you are not able to use the examples.
What are the specific VI's which are not executable.

Thanks to Ed and Dave for posting comments and Andrew and Andy of NI for calling me, my issues are all resolved.

As mentioned in the discussions, DAQ Assist is not available for DAQmx Base hardware (6008 in my case). Instead, there is a panel of DAQmx Base VI's that are used to develop the DAQ programs. For some reason, the version of NI-DAQmx Base I installed would not run the DAQmx Base example VI's so I downloaded a later version and that worked fine. Then, I was able to run the examples and learn how to use the DAQmx Base VI's (real easy).

This has worked out well and I do appreciate the help.
