ramp for step motor

hello
I have to find a way for controlling a step motor of a spectrometer.
therefore it is necessary to increase the steps (frequency) of the
motor (for accelarating the speed to reach positions which are "far"
away).
I am either looking for a ni-card or a software solution.

There are also several under $100 serial port stepper motor
controllers/drivers available with acceleration built in.
