Bob,
Sorry, it sounded like you had several systems that you can play with.

Hi Patric,
Yes I can do that, perhaps, I was trying to open LabView 8.6 and I found it is not working due license problem, I don't know why since my license is valid for it and I renewed to work up to 2014. So, I may need to uninstall labview 8.6 and give a try with 2014.
Anyway, I'm goping to be able to do this until tomorrow since Im in the middle from some preparation at work.
Thanks your help.
Regards
Javier

Yeah, well the machines with multiple LabVIEWs are my serious Development machines. The ones with "clean" installs are a Production machine (can't risk compromising), a Development Spare (which I could try a LabVIEW 2015 install and look for when the service vanishes, but hopefully NI is on that), and a pure 2015 VM (which should be "immune"). I could (and probably should) make a VM from my Development Spare, and do my own experimentation (in my copious spare time ...).

I just loaded LabVIEW 2015 on a system that had 2013 and 2014, since I wanted to access some of the new features. The shared variable works fine on this PC in 2015. It looks like this is more involved than a loss due to the installer. Maybe it has to do with other options on a system during install that causes the Shared Variable Engine to stop working?
I've posted my System view in MAX. Maybe you can see a problem between my installs and yours?

Patrick,
It might be due to my running LabVIEW with the Real-Time and Vision Modules installed.
I've just spent several days trying to sort out why some of my systems have the NI Variable Engine service installed, and some appear to have lost it. All of my systems are Windows 7 x64 (Pro), with 32-bit version(s) of LabVIEW. Most are on Dell platforms, but I also have a few systems installed on VMWare 12.0 Workstations.
What I noticed was that all of my systems (3 tested) that had LabVIEW 2015 installed "on top of" earlier versions of LabVIEW (typically LabVIEW 2012 + 2012 SP1, and 2014 + 2014SP1) lacked the NI Variable Engine service. Two systems with the four earlier LabVIEWs that did not have LabVIEW 2015 installed did have the NI Variable Engine service. Finally, a VM that had only LabVIEW 2015 had the NI Variable Engine service.
Over a period of several days, I attempted to build a Test System to see where things go awry. I started with a VM that had LabVIEW 2012 SP1 and LabVIEW 2014 SP1. That system had 17 NI services installed, including the NI Variable Engine.
Instead of doing my normal Install of LabVIEW 2015 + LabVIEW Real-Time + Vision Development Module, I decided to only install LabVIEW 2015, and check the services post-install. Immediately there was trouble -- I got a message saying that I didn't have sufficient privileges to install the NI Network Discovery 15.0 Service. [I've seen this problem before, intermittantly, most recently while attempting to install LabVIEW 2014 SP1. The "cure" is a Voodoo Mix of Repair, Remove, Reinstall, maybe Run As Administrator ...]. In addition, more than half of my NI services (including, of course, Variable Engine) vanished. I did a Repair of the LabVIEW 2015 Modules (beside LabVIEW 2015, the Database Connectivity Toolkit and Report Generation Toolkit are automatically installed), and after the required Reboot, all of my NI services were back. I also verified that, in LabVIEW 2015, I could create, deploy, and use Shared Variables.
I do not know what caused the "mis-installation" of LabVIEW 2015. Over the next few days, I am going to (cautiously) attempt to repair the three "multi-LabVIEW" platforms, leaving my main Development PC for last. I am also talking to NI Engineering about this issue, and will send them my findings.

Success! The first of my multi-version LabVIEW PCs with LabVIEW 2015 without the NI Variable Engine service (which means no Shared Variables) is now working just fine! I asked it to Repair all of the entries that seemed to be related to LabVIEW 2015 in Control Panel/Programs and Features/National Instruments Software. After about two hours and a few disk swaps, it asked for a Security Patch that I couldn't locate, so I cancelled, let it reboot, and everything now seems to be fine! To prove it, I wrote a tiny routine that updates a (new) Shared Variable and reads it back -- it works! It also shows up in Distributed System Manager.
Whew!
Javier -- if you are still following this thread, I'll be out of town until next Tuesday. If you need my help in fixing your system, get in touch with me next week.
