Did you mean:

square brackets

If my VI used to be called xxx.vi and now whenever I open it, it opens as following [xxx.vi] and I get (I think) coded VI. How do I go back to original and open it without brackets?

right click on the the FP icon of the opened VI, select properties --> windows appearance.
It seems that the VI has a blank name in the title bar.  It is still xxx.vi on disk, but the title bar would be blank when it executes.

Okay, now I lost the brackets [xxx.vi], which is good. But I still get the coded VI, instead of icons. If you dont know what I am talking about I would send it to you.

Sorry, I do not know what you mean by the 'coded vi'.  If you could post a screen shot it would be most helpful.

Do you mean you are getting the block diagram showing up on execution instead of the front panel? Is that what you meant by the coded vi?
