As I suspected, that's an IVI driver and not a native LabVIEW one. Open any of the functions in the driver and you will see a Call Library Function Node. The dll being called is an IVI driver developed in LabWindows/CVI and the LabVIEW functions are just wrappers. Installation of the IVI Compliance Package is necessary for IVI drivers.

I'm not sure that you need to do this unless you use IVI class drivers. With the compliance package installed, try running your VI again and see if you still get the same error. I'm also not sure how you do this manually anyway. For every IVI driver that I've downloaded, the setup program created all of this in MAX.

The Thermotron 2800 is actually very easy to talk to using Serial Communications.  I wrote a set a VIs years ago that read basic information from 2800 or 7800 controller. I've attached these a copy of these VIs.  They won't do everything the IVI drivers do, but they are probably much easier to understand.
