Well, your problem is not raw transfer rate since you are not transmitting much data but the nature of handshaking of every command is simply something you cannot avoid with GPIB and is an issue when you attempt high speed communication. Do not focus on that 1 MByte spec.

 

As I stated at the beginning, imo, you would need to abandon GPIB to achieve very high rates.

Yes I can understand what you are trying to say..but i am sending only one command continously "read".."read" ..."read"....all other commands are executed only once at the beginning...so the subsequent reading should not have any time delay due to handshaking except for the one command "read"...

 

I understand that computer based data acquistion would be faster..but i dont have enough funds presently to buy them.

But you are also constantly switching between talker and listener.

 

I really don't know how much time this takes and agree that the biggest limitation is probably in the instrument and how long it takes to initiate a measurement, finish it, and then transfer the data to it's buffer.
