trouble accessing a database in a deployed application

Hi PCorcs,

Although I don't understand how LabVIEW knows to use the UDL file, I did already have one.  When I open the properties dialog, I get one more tab than the one shown in the instructions to create the UDL file.  The extra tab is the "General" tab.  Under that tab it says that the file opens with "Microsoft Data Access".  I clicked on the "change..." button and LabVIEW2009 was not one of the choices, but LabVIEW 8.6 WAS.  Under the"Connection" tab when logged on as the Administrator I can select an initial catalog to use.  When logged on as the production user, this dialog is blank.  When I click on it to select a catalog, I get the following error:  "Login failed.  Catalog information cannot be retrieved."

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

Perhaps we are not configuring the UDL the same way, could you post screenshots of your UDL configuration?

Hi PCorcs,

It looks like the problem was that I didn't have a user DSN setup for the production login.  I had set up a system DSN as the administrator.  I thought that would work for all users.  I still have a lot to learn about databases.  I still have to test it out for both reading and writing to the database.  I'll let you know.
