trouble with labview 8

I installed the August developer update. Then I downloaded the LabView 8. I opend up one vi in 8 and now all of my report generation vi's won't run. An example is the common "new report. vi" I get several "bundle by name: contains unwired or bad terminal" as well as many "this wire connects to a polymorphic terminal that cannot accept this datatype" Now all of my vi's won't even work in lv 7.1.1. What's the linkage/path/migration problem?

I just opened your attachment without any errors in LabVIEW 8.0. Could you explain once more what the problem is?

What is the path to your report VIs, are you sure yours are loading from within vi.lib?

When you open up the "new report.vi" in the block diagram there are only two cases: standard report and html. The one in my vi's also have word and excel. I moved over all the office folder from add-on in 7.1 to 8.0 and mass compiled. When I open one of my vi's that use the new report vi it comes up with all kinds errors associated with ms word. Jim

Hello Jim,

you had the Report Generation Toolkit installed on LV 7. That toolkit added a office-folder to vi.lib\addons and replaces some vi's in the vi.lib\Utility\NIReport.llb, i.e. "new report.vi".
I think you forgot to add the old NIReport.llb to your LV8 Project..

Thanks, I'll try that. This is my one beef with labview, every upgrade seems to turn into a nightmare chasing down problems. Seems like the same questions over and over on the forum. If "they" know, why not put it out in the documentation. I don't mean buried in some obsure reference that takes hours to find. I "work" using labview, and don't have time to become a "full time" developer every upgrade. Jim

I thought that with LV8 it required Report Generation 1.1.1 while LV7 uses 1.1

I downloaded LV8 as well and activated it (SSP) I am starting a new project and I would like to use LV8 but need the Report Gen Vis. I will copy them over as well to try it while I wait for the CDs to show up here..

Hi Jim,

I did a simple search on the ni.com/support and found a couple of KnowledgeBases that seems to be related to this. Here's the most obvious one:

Why Are the Report Generation Toolkit Palettes Missing in LabVIEW 8.0?

It seems like you need the version 1.1.1 of the toolkit to fix this issue. Please follow the instructions to get the free upgrade.

Thanks, I'll get the Report Gen 1.1.1 But, you kind of illustrated my point. Why not tell eveyrbody when they install 8.0 what needs to be done. Case in point is the other posts addressing the same issue. Simple or not it took a "search" to find information they knew and should have included. This example is just one of many, " I just upgraded/installed X, and now I can't find, or it won't work" posts. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. One question is I followed the suggestion of the other post and copied/replaced the vi/utility/NIreport folder from 7.1 into 8.0. Everything works now. But, going to RG 1.1.1, will I lose anything from 8.0 because the folder in NIreport folder is from 7.1.? Thanks Jim

Jim, I did find in the release notes with LV8 that Report Gen 1.1.1 is required there is also a link in the notes for how to get it, but as you stated there is nothing really showing us how to get it. I want to convert everything to LV8 but I am going to wait until my updates arrive, hopefully report gen 1.1.1 will be included
