Thank you.I have checked the manual of the monochromator. It is said that the optional 77710 IEEE488 interface is required for GPIB communications. And 77710 is actually a code for the monochromator. So I think the cable is right(I have checked with the good cable to connect PC and monochromator only) and the PCI-GPIB interface should be alright.May be I have to find a way to check the address of the monochromator.

can you post a link to the manual? it should tell us how to read the DIP switches on the back and if there are settings in the instrument to enable GPIB control.

Thank you.So in fact, the dip switches are part of MS257,right?There is a photo of MS257,but it doesn't point out where are the dip switches.http://search.newport.com/?x2=sku&q2=77700
And the manual is at http://www.newport.com/Oriel-MS257153-1-4-m-Monochromator-and-Imaging-Sp/378367/1033/catalog.aspx or http://pdf.directindustry.com/pdf/micro-controle-spectra-physics/oriel-ms257-1-4-m-monochromator-and...
I only can find these. So if it is right to do so,I can try as I have the schematic diagram of the DIP switches which I thought it was part of the PCI-GPIB.Thank you.

Catalog pages are NOT the same thing as a manual. You said you read somewhere about dip switches. Obviously not in any of those links. Provide the document where you read this. You really need the manual that describes the GPIB interface and the programming commands. It should have come with the instrument. Request it from the vendor if it got lost.

I'm not sure what dip switch you're referring to since the "manual" doesn't say anything about dip switches, and doesn't have any detailed information about the optional GPIB interface. You should have separate documentation for the GPIB interface. Have you tried contacting Newport tech support? As it is, this is not a LabVIEW issue, but an issue with the GPIB interface of the instrument.

On page 5 of the manual you linked is a reference to the MS257 Programming Manual. I could find no link to such a document on the Newport web site, so you will probably need to contact the company.

Thank you all.I actually have opened the cover of the monochromator, but it is tricky that I cannot find the dip switches. Then I changed the address of the lock-in amplifier which I thought could help to avoid address conflict, but it doesn't work.I want to use IBCONF.EXE, which I think may help, but I cannot find where to download it.

Why do you think ibconfig will help? ibconfig is part of the NI-488.2 installation.
Have you contacted the manufacturer yet?

Their emailbox is fake.So the only possibility is the address of the monochromator is set at 0 or the port is broken? What can I do now?

Really? Newport's email is fake? A company with over 1100 employees and global offices has a fake email address. How do you know this? Are you sure you didn't simply use an incorrect email address? Have you tried that ancient device that we old-timers like to call the telephone?
