upgrading LabView

I am running LabView 5.0 on a system that is running on windows 95. I would like to get the 7.0 upgrade and load in on a system running windows 2000. Do I need the 5.0 base to load the 7.0 upgrade.

No. The 7.0 upgrade is the full version and doesn't require an older version to install. NI did not certify 5.0 for Windows 2000, so I would start from scratch and install 7.0 and not bother installing 5.0.

You will need the LabVIEW VI Conversion Kit to convert your LV 5 VIs to LV 7. LV 7 will not be able to convert VIs prior to 6i.

According to LabView 7 Upgrade Notes >> Upgrade Issues >> Converting VIs, "When you open a VI last saved in LabVIEW 4.0 or later, LabVIEW 7.0 automatically converts and compiles the VI.". If you want to go backwards from LabView 7.0, the Save for Previous option only goes back to 6.1, but you can move to LabView 7.0 from 4.0 or higher.
