user rights

I need the PC station to run the LabVIEW Application with a user who has non-administrative rights. I was certain that this would be a common situation with LabVIEW and easily handled, seeing as one of the use for this software is production test stations. Almost all employees of even small companies (50 people) do not have administrator rights to their computer.

However, when I install the drivers and such as an adminstrator for the station, then log in as a user, I can't run apps like NI SCOPE Soft Front Panel or the Digital Multimeter Soft Front Panel.

Is this thread the definitive answer? http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/3AF977F4C449E4F986256CF7004F291B?OpenDocument

What is the best way to put an application on a workstation including the necessary drivers and runtime engine? Is it to build an install application?

Hi Paul,

The issue you are running into is this: by default, users do not have the necessary permissions required to modify certain directories and therefore cannot run Soft Front Panels (SFPs).  One of the methods you can use to allow a user to run SFPs is to give the user write permissions to the following directory, it's subfolders and files:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments

The thread you included shows a method of altering permissions in order to modify the active NI-DAQ configuration file, but you are correct in believing the same technique ran on the appropriate directory will alleviate the issue.

Best regards!

Thanks, NI Tech support told me the same thning and it worked, but what's strange is that I never had to do this to the two PXI chassis test stations I'm running.

Even I don't have rights to the NI program directory on those 2 stations, but Soft Scope and Soft DMM run fine, as well as the apps I've created.

The problem only appeared when I put a PCI test box out on the floor. What solved it was granting the user rights to NI program direcory. I have no idea why I have to do this for a PCI box, but not the 2 PXI boxes.

Strange...
