Does the PLC TCP port have to be open when the smart cam boots? Currently, I open the port when production begins.
Thanks

Hi BAM
When we run the Smart camera as a client and the PLC as a server we need to take into account the mechanics behind how these work. When the Smart Camera is booted up it will look for a server at the selected port, unless the coding states otherwise it will only look once for the server and then time out. The server on the other hand functions as a listener and will need to be running prior to the client contacting it. Please let me know how your application is doing.

Hi Eric,
Should I open the Port on the 1st scan of the PLC so that it's open when the Smartcam is booting?
Sorry, I would just try these things but the job is running production on 3 shifts right now.
Thanks

Hi Brian
While I am not entirely sure how the specific functionality of a TCP server based on the PLC works I believe once activated the server on the PLC should continue to run so the Smartcam can be booted anytime after the server has been established. Do you need to shut down an assembly line to run these tests at the moment?
Thank You

Eric,
Yes, I would have to shut them down. I'll get back to you when I get a chance to run some more tests.
Thanks

Eric,
I was able to get some time on the smart cam yesterday. I tried immediately opening the tcp port as power is cycled, while the
camera is booting. Nothing changed. When I do a software reboot, I can connect anytime after the camera is running. So it seems
that at least during a software reboot, there doesn't need to be a connection, as I can connect anytime after that.
Also, the camera would hang quite a bit when changing from inspect to config mode and sometimes during connection with vb.
Thanks

Hi Brian
The TCP/IP port does not need to be started on the PLC immediately when the camera boots. As long as other devices do not communicate through it, you should be fine just leaving it open and then booting the Smart Camera. For now you may just want to stick with performing the software reboot, but if you have a active support account we can generate a service request number for you and further communicate on the phone.
Thank You
