visa resource name

My program requires the serial port configuration to be setup be a *.ini file, eg one parameter in the config file will be serial_port = . Representing the computer serial ports and can be changed to any port without rebuilding the software or having the user to select at run time. Can someone please explain how I can convert a uint32 to a visa resource name - if this is possible?.
