where is pin 1 on the 6071E?

i have the pinout for the 6071E but don't know how to orient the board/pins. That is, which pin corresponds to pin 1? I'm guessing that if I view the slot vertically so that it looks like the shape of a D |\
|/
then pin 1 is in the upper left hand corner? anyone know for sure?

Yes, from the picture you have shown, pin 1 is in the upper left hand corner. (That is, if the longer edge of the connector is on top and the shorter edge is on bottom like I think you have drawn.) There should also be a small notch in the connector just above this pin.
