Go to solution

I am trying to update the firmware on my WSN 9791. I can see the 9791 in Max and NI network browser.I am using MAX version 4.7.7f0. THe 9791 current firmware version is 1.0.1. I have the file ni9791fwROM_LV861_LV2009. Once I click on Update Firmware, I click yes and I see: Check The WSN Gateway Firmware Consistency...After a couple of seconds an error message shows up saying:A communication error occured while updating the WSN. Reboot and try agin.

I tried to reboot but it does not work.

Aside from the firmware issue, I am having trouble adding nodes as well. The Add Node button is greyed out. I have reset things, reboot etc and read through many pages on NI support, but no luck. I might have to return the whole thing. I cant afford to pay $1500 for SSP either....

Hi wv,

It looks like this is an network connection issue. For most software installs our hardware reboots into an installation mode and tries to reconnect to the computer to actually start installing software. At this point there may be trouble re-connecting to the PC. In practice this problem manifests exactly as you have described.

Here are some troubleshooting steps:

-drop your firewalls

-turn off antivirus

-set your device to have a static ip address (see this kb).

-turn off wireless on your PC

If your computer has multiple ethernet ports or multiple cards it can also cause problems like this.

let me know how these go

Ok it works now. Here is what I did. Turned off wireless card in Laptop and rebooted with firewall off and virus scanner off. Windows security asked to block or unblock connection. I chose unblock, went to MAX and I was able to run firmware update. Also allowed me to add nodes. I then proceeded with uploading firmware to nodes with bootloader. I got an error message (see 5.png) I chose Continue, upgraded all nodes without trouble.

Now my next problem is adding targets and devices in LabVIEW 2009 FDS. See 6.png. When I right click on Project in Project Explorer I only have the option to click on New...

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

Glad to hear it worked. Try right clicking on "Untitled Project" instead. This tutorial should help you.

Jesse,

Thats what I did. Sorry, I did not clarify that very well.

In step 2. (Right-click on the Project item and select New»Targets and Devices...) of the tutorial I only have New, thats it.I am missing the "Targets and Devices" and "Target Folder"

Thanks
