Any hope of CVI Linux Run Time Update?

Any hope of  an update of the CVI Run Time for Linux from 8 to 8.5?

UIR file issues prevent me from freely moving back and forth between WIndows and Linux, forthnately 8.0 and 8.5 seem to peacefully coexist and the license manager so far has not objected to me having both activated on my desktop and notebook.

Windows only projects I do on 8.5, cross platform I have to do on 8.0,  problem is I'm wanting to move more to Linux every day.

Thanks for the feedback, Wally. We completely understand the problem, and how cumbersome it is to try to maintain two versions of the same development environment. A port to Linux is a major engineering effort, and while we haven't ruled it out for the middle/long term, I have to say that there are currently no plans to do another one in the short term. It all depends on convincing management that it will be cost-effective to do so, and doing that will require a lot of user requests. Yours helps 🙂

The original question was in reference to an upgrade to the CVI Linux runtime library.  Your answer sounded a bit like there are no plans to port the CVI IDE to Linux, which I agree would be a significant effort.  But the LabWindows/CVI for Linux - Run-Time Module  is not a dead branch on the CVI tree is it?

Hi mvr,

I wouldn't consider it a dead branch, but rather just a module that doesn't get updated as frequently as the core CVI package.  There are a variety of other core CVI features that customers are heavily requesting and so  it makes sense that we would devote our resources toward working on those features.  But as Luis mentioned, the more customer feedback we get for updating the Linux module, the more likely and update will occur. So I would suggest that you submit a product suggestion asking for this update so we can easily keep track of this request.

HI mvr,

I went back and re-read my response, and you're right, I didn't make that distinction very clear. Sorry about that Smiley Tongue. I was in fact referring to porting the CVI RTE's "newer than 8.0" features to Linux. While that's not nearly as much work as porting the full ADE, it's still a significant porting effort that we would have to prioritize against expending that effort on other CVI features instead.
