Hi Dean,

There are certification exams available for CVI. We recommend taking CVI Basics I and II before taking the certfication exam. As far as example exams, there is a link to the exam topics on the second link I provided.

Is it more similar to CLAD exam or the CLD exam?

I can't be more specific than the information given in the links. Comparing the two would be difficult since they are completely different environments. However it can be noted that both the CLD and the CCVID are both 4 hours long.

I think it turns out that there is a total of about 12 people in the world who have become CVI "certified" and none of them are in the United States.

If you know of an employer who cares if you're a certified CVI developer I'd be curious as to who they are.

It was Roberto in Italy who pointed this out as I recall.

Up to this moment there are 18 CCVID around the world, 4 of them inside the USA.

As per the exam, since I have obtained no LV certifications till now I cannot give a detailed comparation between the different degrees; CVI examination has both a theorical part (a list of multiple-choice questions) and a practical part (developing a small project based on given specifications). I personally found more difficult the first part for which I had no idea as of the level of complexity or detail that was requested. In this respect, a sample exam to start with could be useful, since there are so many aspects inside CVI to discuss...

Hi Menchar,

Well, apparently my employer does care, because he has tasked me to get certified. I've been using LW off and on since it first came out in DOS( back then it was the only way I knew of to easily write UI code for the IBM machines, I even used it for UI when I moved on to Turbo C++  ). I think he mainly wants me to get it just as a "selling point" for the company. I've allready done things with it that are advanced way beyond what's covered in the course material; yet at the same time, I don't  have a clue as to how to use the DAQ assistant, the "real" way to insert FP code into my program( I always just cut and paste the FP code in to my source ! ), use certian tools/features, etc... ; hence the need to know what's covered on the exam, so I know what I need to start learning.

Hi Roberto,

Thanks for the info. You've encapsulated my concern exactly :
"I personally found more difficult the first part for which I had no idea as of the level of complexity or detail that was requested. In this respect, a sample exam to start with could be useful, since there are so many aspects inside CVI to discuss..."
Am I going to be asked what menu or submenu to use to launch a certain feature ? I have no idea, I just look until I find it !

Will there be an instance of CVI running that I can use during the exam ? ( e.g. if I'm asked a question similar to what I stated above, or to use the help feature ). I was also curious if there was a practical part to the exam, which you stated there was, that was big question I had, so thanks agin for the input.

Even better: you will be asked what happens in case of error if you debugging level is "standard" or "extended" and so on...

Based on my experience, you will need to study carefully at least the Programmer's reference.

My exam had nothing to do with DAQ, DDE, Datasocket, ActiveX and generally external devices / programs: I don't think this aspect has changed, but it should be clear in the documentation available for the exam.

Fortunately, you will have a pc with CVI installed to work on, since in the same 4-hour block you will have to answer questions and develop the application in no particular order, but consider that it's no long a time if you need to study the online help to answer Smiley Wink

Hey Roberto,

Thanks very much for the insight.

I'm not thinking I'll need to use the online help for answers ( at least I hope I don't need to ! ), but it's nice to know that there will be a practical portion and that I will have CVI running, since that will be helpful in looking through the menus etc...,  to help me remember how certain things are done etc...  That's what I do now in my day to day work; I've become pretty fast and it sems to work well for me.

Thanks again, -Dean
