CVI 2009 Will not Launch

Greetings,

I have a test rack with CVI 2009 loaded on it and it has been working fine for the last 6 months.  Now when I try to launch CVI it loads the NI banner then quits.  No error message it just flashes the banner then quits.  If I go to a workspace and double click  I get a "Windows cannot find <the file that I clicked on>".

First I tried to repair my installation- that went without error but the same problem persists.  Next I did an un-install and re-install still the same problem.

I am running on a new computer purchased for this project, and we are running McAfee virus protection on a corporate LAN which updates virus updates frequently and automatically. WinXP SP3.

So am I alone?  Its not you its me.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-don

Hello Don,

Was there anything done on the computer that could've caused this sudden problem with CVI?  Also, when you uninstalled CVI did you clear the registry of everything related to CVI before reinstalling?  It could be that there was something corrupt in the registry and if this wasn't cleared then a reinstall wouldn't have helped.  If you didn't clear the registry you can try again by removing CVI using Add/Remove Programs and then typing "regedit" in the run command window to bring up the Registry Editor.  In the Registry Editor you want to get rid of the CVI folders under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\National Instruments and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\National Instruments.  After this you can reinstall CVI and see if that fixes the problem.

Ok- not good.  I uninstalled, deleted the CVI folder from the registry.  Rebooted just to make sure.  Now when I run the autorun from the disk it takes a while but then reports- "Error: Fatal runtime error. (Error code -10) End Error Report"

Current Status-

I have un-installed and Re-installed CVI as described above (clear Registry etc), did a reload of windows XP with the repair option, CVI was at least able to go through the install procedure and the install went gracefully.  However the original problem still exists- when I try to run CVI; I get the banner then nothing.  No error messages just splash and quit.

Thoughts?

Hello Don,

Where are you installing CVI from?  Also, have you tried it on a computer not tied to your network (i.e. not affected by your security)?

Hello community, hello schudon2,

no, you are not alone. We got the same problem. The description of your problem is exactly the same that we have. Double Click on the CVI Icon, the banner pops up and dissapears instantly. Deinstalling, clearing the registry, reinstalling doesn´t matter, the problem exists furthermore!

We got many pcs running CVI 8.51, no problem. Now we changed one system to CVI 2009 and it worked also fine for round 4 months, yesterday this phenomenom happend the first time and there seems to be no sollution in sight.

Any more suggestions are greatly welcome.

Thanks Thomas

Hey guys -

Could those of you that can please run ConfigCVILogging.exe located in <National Instruments>\CVI2009\bin configured as in the following screenshot?   After configuring it as shown, press OK, and then try to start CVI.  Please then post the resulting log.

I managed to get my system fixed;

After reinstalling without any luck I did the following;

I used regedit to go to registry key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\CVI\9.1

I then deleted the entire key structure at that node.  I did not delete the entire CVI node, since I use 8.5.1, 9.0 and 2009

Go to ADD or REMOVE Programs and selected Change or Remove Programs

Select the National Instrument Software Change or Remove, then Click Repair (you will need all of your installer disks)

After the process finishs restrart the PC and it should work....

Greetings all,

I have enabled the logging as directed.  Ultimately the fix that got my test bench going in my home office was running some registry clean utilities that I got from our field service guy.

His instructions-

1) First remove everything NI through add/remove programs.

2) Then run the MSI blast utility and delete any hidden NI installation files that show up.

3) Then follow the directions in the "Clean Reinstall Procedure.doc". Your basically removing all registry trees
that are NI as well as any remaining NI folders.

I have also observed some flaky behavior while installing Labwindows CVI in our Mexican factories- I was running two test benches (Disk Images of each other) and while in the development environment the Sleep command created a General Protection Fault- while the other system was fine.  It repeated after a re-boot.  Ultimately I finished my de-bug on my other test bench and ported over the exe which appears to be working fine.

Best Regards- don
