Cannot install LabwindowsCVI

I previously had installed a demo version of LabWindowsCVI v7 which did not uninstall cleanly and I had to manually remove many files. I have since purchased the LabwindowsCVI v7 full development system and it will not load. The installer gets to the point where is asks what components to install, but does not install any of the CVI components. It will install the drivers, which were not part of the demo installation. There may be some log file on my system somewhere that tells the installer the CVI components are already installed, but I cannot find it. The v7 demo will not install now either, but a v6 demo will install. Any ideas?

Hello,

I would need some more information before I could answer you definativly.

Do you still see CVI 7.0 anywhere under the add remove programs? In the NISoftware section?

If so please repair/remove it from here. If not we will have to take a more drastic route.

Hi Jeff.

Actually, since posting the question I have been able to solve the problem. To answer your question, CVI7.0 was not shown in the Add/Remove Programs section. Also, I did text searches on file name and file contents looking for strings like "National Instruments","NI" "Labwindows", "CVI", etc, and manually deleted all of those, including some normally hidden system files (a bit scary, but when you are desperate....). I also used Regedit to get rid of any references in Registry (also a bit scary). Still I could not load the new software.

The solution came when I used the Windows Installer Cleanup routine available from Microsoft. This showed up some installer/configuration files not located by text searches. Deleting these solved the problem.
