Choosing Create Instrument IO Task fails with an Unspecified Error

I am using the Instrument IO Assistant to create a simple serial communication with a Spectrum Anaylizer. Since upgrading to CVI 8.0 I can no longer access the Instrument IO Assistant. Choosing it causes a dialog box to show with "Unspecified Error". I recently installed a fresh copy of CVI due to another problem. I already tried installing NI 488.2 and NI Serial drivers, but that didnt correct the problem. How should I proceed?

Do you have a copy of the device drivers CD? I think I've encountered a similar problem before, and if I remember correctly, I had to install the latest version of the Instrument IO Assistant (IIOA) from the drivers CD.  You can verify that it is being installed by expanding the Instrument Control subtree in the installer, and ensuring that IIOA v2.0 is being installed.
