Disable Got Focus rectangle

Is there a way to disable the Got Focus rectangle associated with a control?  As an example, the gray rectangle within a button control, or the gray box surrounding a picture ring control.

I am not aware of a way to hide the focus highlight: as far as I know the only possible workaround remains the one suggested by Luis in this post.
