Distribution (builder) does not always save edits

That is clearly a serious problem. Please try this and tell me if it does not work as expected:

1. Start CVI and open a sample project.
2. Build>>Distributions>>Manage Distributions... and click New... to bring up the New Distribution dialog.
3. Note the "Settings file" path (this is next to the .cws file by default) and click OK.
4. Click OK on the Edit Installer dialog that comes up.
5. Click OK on the Manage Distributions dialog.
6. Close CVI.
7. Browse to the "Settings file" path and ensure the .cds file is present.

If the file is not present, then please let me know the path and if there is anything special about the directory. If the file is there, then please try to determine if there is something different about your other project/workspace, or something different in the steps you usually take from the steps listed above.

Hello Mert,

I have try it and it worked. The file is saved. I have try to change the destination forlder to the same as I use for my prjoect (a network mapped drive) and it worked too.
I have then try to add multiple project to the workspace (as i have) and it worked too.

My project was developed with an earlier version of CVI then carry on from version to version. May I send you my cws file to check if all is correct with it?

The .cws might provide some information, so I encourage you to post it. Also, I would like if you could tell me a couple more details about your problem:

1.  When you open your project/workspace, then go to Build>>Distributions>>Manage Distributions, what happens? Do you get an empty distribution list, and so have to create a brand new distribution each time? Do you get a prompt to convert your pre-8.0 distribution settings? Do you remember ever seeing that sort of conversion dialog?

2. Is this the only project that has problems saving a .cds? Do you have other projects/workspaces with saved distributions?

Thanks.

I had the same problem...

Now, if I change more than one option in distribuition builder, it does not save the modifications. Sometimes the .cds file also corrupts and so, I have to create and configure all stuff again.

By "the same problem," do you mean that renaming directories in the installation tree is not persistent, or do you mean that you have had problems with .cds files not being written out?

You seem to indicate that any single change is persisted, but any two (or more) changes are not persisted. This is unlikely. Could it be that a certain type of change tends to be more often lost?

How do you dertermine that the .cds file is corrupted? Are you getting an error popup that reports the corruption when the project is opened? If you have a corrupt .cds file, I would ask that you please post it here for us to look at.

Thanks.

There's nothing wrong that I can see from your workspace file. In fact, it indicates that your workspace should contain one distribution: e:\SoftDev\TestLab\TestStandOI3\Agilent  Technologies Tests Operator Interface.cds. Just to confirm, this is the file you expected, but it doesn't exist at that path? I tested a few scenarios, but the .cds would always save for me. I asked two questions of you a couple posts ago; if you could answer them, it might help generate clues.

Do you have anymore information about this issue? Are you still having the problem? I know that by following the steps I described in a previous post, you were able to save a .cds file. Then by incrementally making that distribution more like yours, it continued to save properly. If you just recreate your distribution in this manner, does it save?
