While installing LabWINDOWS 2011 (fall version, also known as 2010 SP1) on Windows 7 (64 bit) I get the following error:

An error occured while attempting to create the following directory:
C:\windows\system32\cvirte
=====
I have administrator privileges. Why can't the installer create the above directory? Is this a bug?

CVI is fully compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. Often times, firewalls or virus scanners will block things from installing to the system32 directory because many viruses will locate themselves there. You may want to take down any firewalls or virus scanners you have active, or contact your IT department if theyre the ones that handle such things. Let me know if that doesnt work for you.

The Windows firewall does not appear to be active. I don't see any other firewall installed.
I also don't see any antivirus software. But I'm not familiar with Windows 7 features, so I could very well be overlooking something.
Still looking for the answer.
The computer is new. It was purchased as part of a Nikon microscope system. As far as I can tell the vendor's microscope software is the only non-MS application installed. I'm wondering if the vendor did something to discourage installation of other software.

The odd thing is that the files are supposed to be automatically redirected to the sysWOW64 directory, which sounds like it may not be happening. There are ways that this can be turned off and on, which Nikon may have enabled.It looks like you could use the Wow64EnableWow64FsRedirection function, as described in this and this article from MSDN. You may also want to call Nikon in case they have limited access in other ways.

The following steps, found on the internet, solved the immediate problem. However the installation still fails for another reason, the NI drivers won't install (see message below).

NI DRIVER INSTALL PROBLEM:
The following message appears while installing the NI driver DVD:

The "NI LabVIEW 2010 MeasAppChm File" installation has failed with the following error:
A later version of this product already is installed on this computer.

After getting the above message I downloaded and installed the latest NI driver software. The same message appears.

Even though I continue to get the installation error shown above everything seems to work ok, at least so far. I don't know what the MeasAppChm file does but apparently not much. NI Support can't identify it. I just wonder if it's going to haunt me in the future. Hopefully any error it causes will be obvious and not some subtle issue thats hard to identify.

Querty,
I believe the measappschm is just a help file for some introductory information on some DAQ topics. Having an issue with this file should not prevent you from using CVI.
