Dr Watson closing application and reporting errors suddenly- help

Need help!

I have a CVI 7.0 application on 2, not quiet identical computers, but both have Intel Pentium 4 with Windows 2000 s.p. 4.

The application communicates with up to 6 units through RS422 and switches between the units using DI/O of ADlink units connected through USB hub and identical in both computers.

In short, the application is controlling each unit for about 10 seconds and then it shout down the units and waits like 4 hours before the next session, and this goes like 5 rounds.

Both computers worked with the application for about 4 month ok.

Since a month ago, in only one of the computers, the application is randomly and occasionally  being closed by Dr Watson announcing different access violation each time like: RTLAllocatedHeap and RTLDeleteCriticalSection (There is no use of critical section in this application at all…) and sometimes without a message as a reason at all.

Must say that it happened during the break between the sessions when the application almost does nothing but waiting for a trigger to start next session.

I Tried to debug it with no success, could not catch it.

I will also add that a printer + driver were added to this computer about the same day the problem started, but there is no conflicts reported in system.

Need help in a hurry…

Thanks,

Di.

Di,

It seems that if the problem started after this had been working for a while, we need to decide if the driver for the printer caused the problem. If you uninstall this does the problem still persist? Does this happen on other machines without this printer driver? If you find that the driver is the problem, what driver is it?

Well, it does seems like that, but I am not near the computer these next few days so can;t un-install it now, but it was reported to me that it is working ok in the meantime (hope that thanks to the re-install the application again), but I am not quiet sure if it solved the problem because the problrm itself happens randomly so it can happen again.

I did find out though, that the driver installed was of the Brother 2030 printer. do you happen to know if such drivers can run over some dll files that are needded by CVI?

My problem is that the coputer should be sent to another country soon, and I need to guaranty somehow that the problem will not happen again.... Do you think that closing the Dr watson application can help as well?

Thanks anyway,

Di.

Di,

Closing Dr Watson may help, but I am not familiar with using that particular program with CVI, so I am not sure. I cannot find anything about this printer causing problems but if it happens again, please let us know.
