nick,
the first time I execute the distribution setup.exe I get this message:
which means "To run requested operation it is necessary to execute it with high privileges". After pressing OK the message disappears and that's all.
After successfully installing the distribution, if I execute setup.exe again I get the window you posted, with the only difference that it recitates:
Program: setup.exe
Author: Unknown
File origin: local hard disk (I have copied the distribution on the PC)

Hi Roberto and Nick,
I got this week exactly the same problems (i.e. Error 1920. Service "Lockout Citadel Server" failed to start) after trying to upgrade my NI-DAQmx from version 8 to version 9 (on VISTA with Labview 2009). It finally corrupted my complete NI-DAQmx-installation, and I had to uninstall and reinstall the complete Labview package....
After many many trials I figured out, that in my case my firewall "Zone alarm" was probably the guilty part. I unplugged my ethernet-connection, turned off the firewall and all virus scanners, and then I could finally install NI-DAQmx without problems. Thought this might be worth telling you.
Regards, Roland
P.S.: Nick, I used to work together with a Nick B. at the MBL in former times, could it be that you are this person?

Thanks for the update Roland - this one really had me stumped... Hopefully the information will help other users.
I'm afraid that I'm not the Nick B that you know - I've never worked anywhere known as MBL 🙂

I missed to update on the third computer installation.
Installing the RTE with the same exact installer I used for the first 2 machines gave no errors nor warnings (except the expected initial UAC screen). I then copied my executable on the machine and it ran as expected.
The third machine was a brand new Win7 professional english-language box.
I tend to suppose my problems were not related to Roland situation as I had no antivirus nor firewall running while I was installing the software on all PCs. The boxes were not connected to the Internet nor to any PC network.
Could italian localization on the first two PCs give some unexpected problem in the installer? It was the first time I tried installing 2010 RTE on Win7 so I have no other experiences on this.

Hi,
I ran into the same problem today. At the moment I am downloading the LabVIEW Run-Time engine. From reading this topic, this might help.
Can somebody confirm me on that ?
(BTW, I remmember seeing this citadel error before, I think in that case it was something with Xilinx. But it is a long time ago so I am not sure of that...)

Hi Stieve,
I have just ended up installing an application on 2 new machines - Win7, one english and one italian OS.
I have only installed the run-time 2010 from the installer downloaded from NI site, next copied my application to the hard disk and all worked well without any error. My application does not use any additional software or driver, it simply uses the serial ports to control external devices and makes local work. I had no need to install the LV RTE.
Which type of error do you receive?

Hi,
At the moment I am removing LabVIEW from my PC in the lab. This is taking a very long time so I figured that I might install LabVIEW on my laptop as well to pas the time.
But around 60% I got the same error as you posted in the beginning of this topic.
On my laptop I already have NI Multisim and Ultiboard installed. I know I have encountered this error before or have heard about it, but that was a long time ago.
My guess is that I best install LabVIEW from the laptop and try again without the virusscanner off.

Is it possible I am getting this error because of the fact that my PC works in vista language Dutch and LabVIEW install CD will only accept English ?

Stieve,
the only similaryty between your situation and mine is the non-english localization of the OS. I received infact these messages only on italian machines, but they were brand new, without any software installed apart the preloaded OS and accessories (and yes: office trial and antivirus, but I didnt' started any of them one the machines when I was installing NI software, nor I had installed any other package from NI before).
You could try disabling the antivirus before installing the software.
Are you installing a distribution for an application of yours or some NI package?

Hi Roberto,
I am done installing now whitout my virus scanners on and it worked perfectlly.
My guess is that I could not reach some files somewhere.
