How can I get a driver disk?

Solved!
Go to solution

Greetings all.

I have a situation.  I'm using CVI 8.0.1 with NI-DAQmx version 8.1.0f1.  I'm trying to create a distribution kit to put the software on another machine to control operation & collect data.  The machine I need to put my software on has NI-DAQmx 6.9.2f8 & I've tried to run my software on it & was unsuccessful.

When I try to build the distkit, it prompts me for disk "May 2006".  I do not have the disk & cannot get it from my IT dept. (that's a different story).  I have disks that are 2003, 2007, and 2008 😞  None are accepted by the kit builder.  I'm downloading the DAQmx 8.1 from your website and are hoping you can tell me how to make the disk I put it on shows up as May 2006.

I really need to get this project done & I'm sorta on my own here, any help would be appreciated...

Thank you,

Rob

You won't be able to give the system the DAQmx 8.1 disk if it's asking for the May 2006 driver disk. It is very particular about which disks it wants, because it doesn't know if all the components it needs might be found on a different disk. This behavior has been somewhat improved in newer versions of CVI, but in your case, if it's asking for May 2006, you have to provide May 2006. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any standard channel for you to get a new copy of that disk. It might be possible if you phoned in to support, but I wouldn't even count on that. I can think of two other options:

1. Use one of the driver disks that you do have (2007 or 2008) to upgrade the version of NI-DAQ on your development machine. Presumably, this will upgrade every component that would have been required from the May 2006 disk, and the distribution build process should ask you for one (or more) of the 2007 disks instead.

2. Do not include NI-DAQ in your distribution. Use your 2007 or 2008 disks to install NI-DAQ to your target machine separately.

Alright, hadn't though of upgrading the DAQmx on this machine... I do have admin rights and will try this immediately.  I'll post here the details on if it worked or not... sure sounds like it should.

Thank you so much for the quick reply!!
