I had a bad experience with damaged CDs. They do have the nastyness to die
on me when I really need them, not before 😞
I plan to experiment with a CDROM drive and I would like to "address" the
CDROM surface and move the head to that position. How could I do that? Is
there anything simple (driver, source code) out there (the ATAPI source
code seems to be too complex for me).
I think that it could be possible to detect scratchmarks outside of coding
area that could monitor how badly was the CD handled and decide whether the
user needs to order copy before the old one "dies". That would take away
some of the urgency in such situations.
