Is is possible to change the marker color independently
from the line color in graphs? (ie black connecting lines with red diamonds)

I don't know of any way to have markers of different colors from the original line.
As a trip you could use a PlotPolygon building the arrays that corresponds to the desired shape, but this should be made for every individual marker to draw...
