Installation Error CVI 2010

I have downloaded CVI 2010 (http://digital.ni.com/src.nsf/title/328E657FA0DB8911862577EC005B9ACC?OpenDocument).

When I try to install CVI I became the error "The NI LabWindows/CVI 2010 Core (x86) installation has failed. Continue?"

When I continue, CVI is not installed correctly (e.g. no execution files exist).

Another problem during the installation process is the request to insert the "device driver DVD". In the extracted files I do not found the correct folder and therefore I take the device driver DVD from CVI 2009, but it also doesn't work without failures.

I'm using Windows XP SP3 and I have deinstalled CVI 2009 before the installation.

Could anyone help me?

Kind regards

Jürgen

Hi Jürgen,

I have tested the web download file, and it works without problems on a XP SP3 Machine, even when CVI 2009 remains on the drive.

So we cannot actually blame it on the downloaded installer. Did you try on another computer? Is it working there? Maybe you should clean your

registry (in respect of CVI entries, with RegCleaner for instance) before installing.

Hello Jürgen,

it also would be helpful for us if you could run the installer with the following parameters in order to create an install log.

From a command line run:

setup.exe /log <path to the log file>

Hello Marco,

thank you for your help :-).

Today I installed CVI 2009 and now I try to install CVI 2010 on the command line to generate the logfile without deinstallation of CVI 2009 before. I became the same error 😞 ... but I have the logfile ;-). I have attached it.

Could you further help me with this informations?

Kind regards

Jürgen

Hi Jürgen,

I forwarded the install log to our R&D for evaluation. I´ll keep you in the loop.

Hello Jürgen,

The log indicates that something in your computer is preventing the Windows Script Host from running vbs scripts, which the CVI 2010 installer needs to do. The error that is reported is "failed to marshal script action".

Googling for this error suggested some possible causes, ranging from anti-virus software to corrupted registration of system DLLs. I tried in my own test machine to explicitly disable the Windows Script Host in various ways, but I was never able to reproduce the same installer failure that you are seeing, which implies that there are probably multiple ways in which this functionality can be crippled, and I just wasn't able to cripple it in the same way that it is crippled in your computer.

One quick and easy thing you can try is to re-register oleaut32.dll (in a console window, type "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll" and then try re-running the installer, When you do, remember to run the installer with logging enabled, as Marco described, and if you still see the error, try to continue running the installer all the way to the end before sending us the log. I'd like to see if there's anything else in the installation that is failing, since this might give us some additional clues.

Hi, I have the same problem when installing LabWindows/CVI 2010. The system initially got CVI v9.0 installed. I uninstalled 9.0 and tried installing 2010. I got an error message below

The "NI LabWindows/CVI 2010 Core (x86)" installation has failed. Continue?

I tried using CCleaner to clean up the registry and re-register oleaut32.dll. But they did not fix the problem.

Also, Internet Explorer failed to start after the installation. I tried re-installing XP SP3 to recover the problem of IE, but I got an internal error from SP3 installation.

Any idea?

Eric

Hello echu,

We now think we know what the problem is. Because you installed and then uninstalled CVI 9.0, you've more than likely run into this problem. This is now preventing you from running IE and also from installing CVI 2010. Please try following the instructions in the linked document and let us know if it fixes all the problems you're seeing.

Jürgen,

Out of curiosity, had you also installed and then uninstalled CVI 9.0 in that computer, prior to installing CVI 2010?
