Is it possible to run the CVI RTE on a Windows 2003 Server?

Hello everyone!
The plain question is:
Is it possible to run the CVI RTE on a Windows 2003 Server/Xeon multiprocessor plattform?
Thanks for answering,
Richard

Hi Richard,

according to the system requirements you can run LabWindows/CVI with Windows 2000/NT (SP6)/XP.

So you may try to run it on a Windows 2003 Server/Xeon multiprocessor plattform but if there are any

problems it will not be supported by NI.

Hi Richard,

I have to agree with Carsten with respect to official support.  But, I can also add that I have been running a CVI 6 (now CVI 7) application on Windows S2K3 for almost 2 years now without a hitch.  This is a dual Xeon box that monitors a production process and puts data into a database.  The database can grow up to 350 MB per week and the server can handle over 1 GB of FieldPoint ethernet traffic in that same time period--all without any problems.  Who knows?  Your app might be very different from mine.

Remember S2K3 is Windows 5.2, while XP is 5.1.  Many of the 32-bit API calls are the same or expanded even though underneath there are some changes that make them differ.  I can't tell you anything about the 64-bit environment for S2K3.  When I asked last year about this the only response I got from NI about a future 64-bit environment was advise to consider the .NET studio add-on and try it there.  There aren't all that many 64-bit apps yet so I personally doubt CVI 8 will natively include its own 64-bit compiler and distribution kit.  Maybe we'll have to wait for CVI 9?
