LabWindow/CVI 8.0 Run Time Engine installation problem

Hi :

I had previously installed LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW for both 7.0 and 7.1 version in my PC.  Currently, I installed the LabVIEW and LabWindow/CVI 8.0 for supporting the DAQmx library.  Unforturnatly, there was error for installing "LabWindow/CVI 8.0 Runtime Engine" even after I reinstalled it for so many times.  I have not idea what is wrong with the installation for LabWindow/CVI, it just request me to installed it again and again every time when I open LabVIEW or CVI.

Thanks for the supporting, and hope to hear back from you asap.

Hello,

I think your machine has gotten into a case where it it trying to repair something that is already at a higher version, therefore the installer gets in an infinite loop.  This is an issue that was found and recently fixed.

Can you let the dialog come up and then go to the Application Event Viewer (right click on my computer and select Manage, then go to EventViewer//Application)  There should be some MSI Events that state what the CVI RTE is trying to repair.  With this information I should be able to give you some instructions about how to solve this problem.

This is a serious issue.  We are distributng the CVI 8.0.1 runtime engine with our products and our customers are having this installation problem all over the place.  It seems to be custoers with otehr NI products installed.  But if theyuninstall everything else the CVI8.0.1 runtime continues to show this problem.  It pops up this error message and and asks to repair the installation, then it requires a PC restart.  When the PC boots, the same error message pops back up.

Hey Devin,

Could you follow Jeff's instructions on going to the Application Event Viewer and looking for MSI Events that should show what the CVI RTE is trying to repair? If you could send me screenshots of these events then we should be able to get some more information on what exactly is causing this problem.

Lars

This same issue started happening to me after I installed NI Vision and Vision assistant. Even after I uninstalled these VIsion stuff and reinstalled Labview core software, the same phenomenon continues to happen, asking me to install the RTE and reboot the machine again and again.

I checked MSI events as suggested above. There seems to be two warnings regarding this phenomenon:

They are,

"Warning 1":

Source: MsiInstaller

Event ID: 1004

Description:

Detection of product '{889BF4A8-E783-46C4-8FB8-97A0B977C32A}', feature 'CVIRTE.CVIRTE08001', component '{AC6DEEA2-84E6-4AEE-B3E8-9FE6E7EEA605}' failed.  The resource 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cvirte\bin\English\cvierror.txt' does not exist.

"Warning 2":

Source: MsiInstaller

Event ID: 1001

Description:

Detection of product '{889BF4A8-E783-46C4-8FB8-97A0B977C32A}', feature 'CVIRTE.CVIRTE08001' failed during request for component '{95A2F34E-BBED-429D-AD92-49FB0BAE03F2}'

Do they have something to do with registry entries? I looked at entries under  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18 and others, and could find some seemingly related keys but they look pretty inextricable to me.

I understand this is rather old problem and have been solved in a newer version of LabView. Since we however have to use an older version and this is extremely annoying (you know, after uninstalling everything, it still remains...), I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could let me know  a clue to sort this out.

My labview version is 8.2.1.

Labwindows/CVI 8.0.1

Thanks,

Hiroki

Hi Hiroki,

What operating system are you currently running?

You might want to try creating an error log of your CVI installation and then post it up here for us to have a look at.  You can find instructions on how to do so here.
