LabWindows/CVI 2013 SP2 stops working when I try to open a file using the project file menu.

I have windows 7 on my system and sometime late last year I starrted getting a Windows dialog telling me that LabWindows/CVI has stopped working when I try to open a file from the project file menu.  I also get an error when I run a project debug mode and use a selectFilePopup in the code.  The error says, "The program has suspended execution at address 0x75D5025E.  No source line information is available."  I've tried removing and reinstalling CVI to no avail.  Any suggestions?

Hello Nick,

We just had an user with the very same problem. See discussion here. He eventually reinstalled Windows and CVI worked again.

Could you please tell which versions of kernel32.dll and ntdll.dll you have. These files are located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 on 64bit Windows and C:\Windows\System32 on 32bit Windows. To see the version right click the file, select Properties and go to Details tab.

Could you also say which Windows Updates were installed before CVI stopped working(Control Panel->Windows Update->Wiew update history)

Constantin,

Thank you for your response.  I've attached screnshots showing the version details for kernal32.dll and ntdll.dll.  I also looked at the updates to see which might have been installed when the problem started.  Unfortunately there are 15-20 updates every month.  I didn't take note of when the error started to occur.  At first it only affected my ability to open files from within the project (i.e. file->open->Source, etc).  Then I went back to modify a project that had a SelectFilePopup and found that that wouldn't work either.

Hello Nick,

I have the same versions of kernel32.dll and ntdll.dll as you and CVI is working fine.

What is your exact Windows version? The other user with this problem had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. You can right-click on My Computer and select Properties to see Windows version.

Hello Nick,

You can try uninstalling Windows updates. You can intall them back afterwards:

  • Turn off automatic updates so the updates don’t get reinstalled(Control Panel->Windows Update->Change settings)
  • Uninstall all updates up to a point when you know CVI was working (Control Panel->Programs and Features->View installed updates). Right-click on each update and select Uninstall. This could be tedious because you have to uninstall each update one after another. Some updates can’t be uninstalled.
  • Check if CVI is working
  • You can now install back the updates(Control Panel-> Windows Update->Check for updates)
  • Turn back on automatic updates.

I don't know if this could remove the crash but I don't have other ideea.

Thanks for your connection and persistance.  I'll try the uninstall and reinstall and let you know the results.  It will be  few days before I can get to it though.  Other priorities...

Thanks again,

Nick
