Base Version 7.1 For Windows, no patches or updates,
fully licensed (not evaluation)
Windows 2000 fully updated and
patched.
I attempted to build a distribution kit for my
application (which incidentally has been done by two other engineers
here on other computers). When clicking the menu item, the IDE just
sat there forever with the window grayed out. No menu items could be
selected, the window close, minimize, and maximize buttons would not
work. Task Manager reported the application as still running. I left
it alone for about 30 minutes before I finally used the Task Manager
to kill it, at which point the "Application is not responding"
dialog appeared and I forced the application to stop.
Upon
attempting to run LabWindows/CVI (CVI) again, it would only open
minimized to the Windows task bar with the title of the project I had
been working on. I could not maximize or restore it and again had to
use Task Manager to kill it. I tried the CVI "Repair"
option, but that did not work. I have since uninstalled CVI,
rebooted, re-installed it, rebooted, many times with no luck. CVI
would just keep coming up the same way - minimized to the Task Bar.
We have several applications that were built using CVI, so I removed
all of them from my system (rebooting each time), and deleted the
directories they were installed in. I then tried re-installing CVI
again, again with the same result.
Now, CVI will not even
install. When running the installation from the CD, it appears to
install (it goes through the entire process, creating the Start Menu
items, etc.), but when looking at the directory where CVI is supposed
to reside, there is nothing in it but documentation files. I can no
longer continue with any development because CVI will not install no
matter how many times I try to remove and re-install it.
I
hope someone can help me resolve this ASAP.
Thanks,
PGA

Hi PGA,
Please call or email to support so we can provide you with a program and procedure to completely remove CVI from you system.
If you do not have support, then there is one procedure we can try. Please note that this involves removing registry keys, and could cause damage to the Operating System, which we cannot be liable for. First, uninstall CVI and remove any program folders (being careful not to delete applications you have written). Then, save your registry settings (Start >> Run >> regedit >> File >> Export). Then delete the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SOFTWARE >> National Instruments >> CVI (not CVI Run-Time Engine). Do the same for the CVI folder under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Next, try rebooting and re-installing CVI.
I hope this helps!
