Labwindows cvi 2015

Dear all,

I have received a new version of CVI 2015, and I would like to know if I can have the two versions(2013 and 2015) in the same machine?

Now, I have the cvi 2013 version, and I would like to install the 2015 version as it is the latest one. My application work fine on 2013, and I do not know if my application will work fine  too on the 2015 version. It is why I am not decided to use exclusively the 2015 version right now.

I would like to know how did you do for the 2015 and the 2013 version? do you deisintall completly the 2013 version, or backup it..

If you backupt it, I would like to know which folders should I backup?

It is for precaution, if the appication does not work fine on the 2015 version, I could always come back to the 2013 version, at least I know that it works fine on that version.

Thank you for your advices.

Best regards,

Hello hapiest,

You can certainly install LabWindows/CVI 2015 while having an existing copy of LabWindows/CVI 2013 also installed on your machine. Installing a newer major version of LabWindows/CVI either through the NI Update Service or from a stand-alone installer will not replace your older versions of LabWindows/CVI.

Note however, that your LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine will be replaced with the newer 2015 version, since there can only be one shared Runtime between your applications on your machine. You don't have to worry about porting your application to the newer 2015 version, because the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine is also fully backwards compatible with older LabWindows/CVI applications.

So if you would like to continue using your older LabWindows/CVI 2013 version along side with the 2015 one, you can safely choose not to uninstall it. One reason for choosing to continue using older versions may be when companies standardize on particular versions of CVI. However, NI encourages users to update to newer releases, in order to benefit from bug fixes and newer features.
