Laptop Crashes During/After Hibernate

After many crashes, I've determined that LabWindows 7.1 running on Win XP on my Dell D610 is the cause
of my PC crashing either during entry into hibernate or the next recovery from hibernate. My PC doesn't
crash if I don't use LabWindows. Occasionally, my screen will pop up a windows text message (DOS mode,
not windows) saying there was a problem with a driver and telling me it was saving data. On the next
re-boot, it asks if I want to send this data to Microsoft.

I've searched the NI site and don't see anything but a reference to a serial driver causing this. There
are some similar references to some add-ons in LabView, but I don't use LabView.

Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have a clue as to how I can track this down once I have the
problem?

Thanks!

Hello D,

I haven't heard of this behavior before. Actually on my Windows XP SP2 Dell laptop, I do not see the same behavior. What other NI Software/Hardware do you have installed? I did hear about a similar issue happening with the DSC module as mentioned in the following post.

Thanks.

Hi Wendy,

I have no other NI software or hardware installed.

I don't know what DSC is but I did see thread that under LabView.

I'm certain that the hibernate recovery crash happens only when I run LabWindows, but there
are other applications that I'm running at the same time. Most frequently, I'm using Microchip's
MPLAB IDE and am talking to PIC boards using applications developed under LabWindows.

I just bought this Win XP laptop, but previously I had a Win 98 laptop with LabWindows 5.5 installed
on it. It had exactly the same symptoms.

I have not seen any hibernate recovery crashes when I've not either used LabWindows (opened, then
closed) or had LabWindows open during the hibernate.

Thanks for the help!

Hello Dave,

To further isolate when this problem occurs, can you open a shipping example in CVI, then set your computer to hibernate? When you recover from hibernation, do you still see the hanging behavior? Also, if you just open an empty workspace, and then hibernate with that workspace open, do you still see the same behavior? If not, then it seems like the problem only occurs when the project that is communicatiing with your external hardware is opened in CVI. So do you know if the driver for you hardware support hibernation?

Let me know how this goes. Thanks.
