Linux version of CVI?

There's a hint of the possibility of a Linux version of LabWindows/CVI on
ni.com. Is there any substance to this?

I'd like to vote for a Linux version of CVI as well.
An interesting observation - Labview for Linux installs
a CVI runtime engine during installation. Since the runtime engine exists - maybe the dev environment is
not too far off....

Hello

We have not made any announcement about CVI support for linux. We are monitoring demand but do not currently have any plan on porting CVI to the linux platform

Is there somewhat of a chicken vs. egg situation regarding CVI on Linux? I
have both CVI and LabView but, at this point in time, it seems to me that
CVI is much better suited for handling the details of my professional
software development; in fact, it seems well enough suited to these tasks
that I have essentially abandoned MSVC and Borland Builder and Delphi, which
my non-US office uses almost exclusively. In my locality, there is a
great amount non-internet of LabView support with users group meetings,
frequent seminars, etc. but almost nothing similar for CVI. Compared with
LabView, CVI seems to be NI's almost forgotten step-child and Linux CVI
seems even more remote.

I agree. It seems lots of people will want to buy CVI for Linux, if
available.

NI is always pushing LV. My new BOSS has forced to use LV so I am doing my
latest project in it. For non-programmers LV is fine but for hard core
stuff, I will still take CVI in combination with VC++.

Hello everyone,

In an attempt to try to catch everyone who might have a LabWindows/CVI and Linux or Real-Time interest, I'm going to repost this information in this thread as well. I know this thread has been going on for a few years now, but I wanted to update whoever is interested in the latest LabWindows/CVI modules that we've released to try to address your multiplatform support needs:

So we now have a Real-Time Module, which allows you to develop LabWindows/CVI apps on a Windows machine and run on a real-time PXI or PC target.
Also, to partly address the main subject of this thread, in August, we release the Run-Time Module for Linux, which similarly allows you to develop on a Windows machine as you always have with CVI, and then run your application on multiple Linux distributions.

That's a brief overview of the latest modules, but if you want more information on what hardware is supported and also a more in-depth discussion on the module, take a look at the following resources:
Real-Time Module: www.ni.com/lwcvi/realtime

Thanks.
