Missing Function Help

When I right click on a library function and select "Function Help" I get a blank window for most of the functions. Also some of the functions do not have help available when I search for them in the Help menu, for example, the ACDCEstimate function.

Anyone know what's happening?

Thanks
Dave 🙂

Dave, it is possible that the documentation for your libraries did not get installed or they got corrupted. The simplest way to fixt this would be to repair the install or reinstall the product.
Also, can you bring up the help file by pressing F1 (or Help>>Contents). This should open the chm file that contains all the help information for every function.

Yes, I can bring up the Contents Help and I can get most functions, but not all of them!
For example, ACDCEstimator (in the Advanced Analysis/Measurement library) wont show up when I type it into the "index" part of the Contents Help, but the very next library entry AmpPhaseSpectrum will show up!
So I find it hard to believe it's an install problem of any sort.

If as you say, the Contents Help file contains every function, why does ACDCEstimator (among others) not show up while most of them do? Very strange indeed...
Can someone else confirm that their CVI install has help for ACDCEstimator?

Thanks
Dave 🙂

I can see the same thing with my install for CVI 7.1, but it looks like it's been fixed for the next version. Let me know what the other missing functions are and I can try them out and make sure they are fixed. If you just want to see how the function works, the function panel help should have the same information. To search for a function panel from the source window, hit Ctrl-Shift-P and type in something like acdc. This should bring up all the function panel matching that name.

Sorry about this

If you want to try out the next version of CVI, we have a beta for that available at ni.com/beta

Dave,

This is a problem in the indexing, in the 7.1 online help. The function is actually there, which you can confirm by expanding the table of contents in the help: Library Reference>>Advanced Analysis Library>>Alphabetical List of Functions>>ACDCEstimator. You can also find it by typing its name in the Search tab. I apologize for the inconvenience.

You also mentioned that when you right-click on the function and select "Function Help", you get a blank window for most of the functions. Are you referring to the function panel, in which you can normally right-click and get function help?

Thanks Luis.

I found it in the table of contents, so you are correct, the search/indexing facility has a major problem!

I am not reffering to the Function Panel, but the "Function Help" box which comes up simply blank for a lot of functions.

Dave 🙂

Thanks, Dave.

Is that the function help that is displayed when you right-click on a function panel? Or is it something else entirely?

If it's the function panel help, I wouldn't have expected it to ever be blank. Could you give me an example of a function for which it is blank, and one for which it isn't?

Thanks,
Luis

Hi Luis,
Yes, I was talking about the function help when you right click on the function panel, or select "Function Help" from the context menu in the library list box on the left side.
BUT I just tried it again and you wouldn't believe it, it now works!
I swear black and blue it was coming up completely blank before, and has done so since I installed CVI. ACDCEstimate was but one example where it was blank. The only thing I can can think of is that I have now opened and browsed the Context Help menu, perhaps that has initialised something in the Help system?

I'll let you know if it comes up again.

Thanks
Dave 🙂
