Partial linux install

Hello all,
OK, I installed the LabView CD on Linux, but I'm only interested in the CVI
parts.
I have a \usr\local\natinst\cvirte directory but no \usr\local\natinst\cvi80
and thus no cvicc...
Did I miss something on the installation CD ?

Hi Guillaume,

The Linux installation should place files in these directories:

• \usr\local\natinst\cvi80
• \usr\local\lib

What installation CD were you using to install CVI for Linux? Per this link you should just need to run the INSTALL script and it will install the correct directories.

CD is labeled "Professional Development System fo Linux", Fall2006, Version
8.2, 501448A-113

The script installed mostly LabView related stuff, with the addition of the
CVI runtime engine and VISA stuff.

That installation CD is the LabVIEW Professional Development System for Linux, not the CVI Run-Time Module for Linux. You will need to find the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Module for Linux installation CD.

Arghhhh... always something missing !

Is this runtime supposed to be part of the NI CD/DVD kit or is it a separate
purchase ?
And how come I have \usr\local\natinst\cvirte ? If it something that came
out after my fall 2006 DVD release ?

The Extended Development Suite DVD has a bunch of linux directories, but
they seem unrelated. The Linux CD contains only nicvirte-8.0-5.i386.rpm as
CVI related.

LabVIEW is dependant on the CVI RTE so that is why you are seeing the nicvirte on the LabVIEW installation. The CVI Run-Time Module for Linux does not come with devsuite. You will need to contact NI Sales to get a copy.

Talking with them right now...

I assume that in order to create a Linux executable, you _need_ cvicc. Or
maybe you can cross-compile from Windows like you do for the real-time OS ?
I somehow doubt this as I haven't seen any info on the subject.

I'd like to see some examples of Linux CVI programs...
