Trad-DAQ missing after CVI 7.0 install

Hello all,
I'm just trying out CVI 7.0 but the [Traditional NI-DAQ] option is greyed out in the [Library]
menu. I even tried reinstalling NI-DAQ 7.2
Could it be because I still have CVI 6.0 ?

And side question: how easy is it to go from Trad-DAQ to NI-DAQmx ? Is mx going to supersede Trad
in the future ?

Hello,

I can try and help answer your problem. You will need to uninstall traditional DAQ and reinstall tradition DAQ to get it to recognize that there is a new CVI on the machine. This will remove it from you CVI 6.0 installation.

Another solution is to take the lib files that deal with daq (anything that has DAQ and easyio in the name) and move them to the CVI 7.0 location. This means you need to go to the include, bin, extinst directories and move FP, LFP, lib, h, sub and any other files fitting the DAQ/EASYIO description.

About DAQmx. What I know is, it is a newer/better architecture for DAQ. It is where NI is heading. The CVI group has had a lot of input into the DAQmx API for CVI versus the traditional DAQ API. NI is not going to abandon the traditi
onal DAQ user. There will continue to be bug fixes and support.

Well, there is no such thing as a "NI-DAQ uninstall" in the [Add/Remove programs] of the control
panel... Upon closer look I found it as one of the options of National Instruments. It seems to
have done the job. Thanks.

I checked and it doesn't support my 4451 cards, so that's one thing I needn't worry about.

Hi Guillaume,

DAQmx API is friendly and gives you better performance. As Jeff sais we will not drop Tradition DAQ, however future products will be supported only in DAQmx.

Have you checked the new 4461, its 2 in 1 out DSA board with 24-bit resolutions. That one is supported in DAQmx, so you may want to look into that one for future applications.

My current customer bought a whole stack of 4451 and gave me two for the software development
side, so I guess they won't be in a hurry to shell for the new bells and wishes... We'll see in 4
years, like last time !!!

Well, the 4451 should do a very good job too. The 4451 is cornerstone for DSA.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello Aaron,

The problem is caused by what jlaney said.  Your installation of DAQ is associated with your older version of CVI, so what you should do is uninstall your DAQ driver (Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs >> National Instruments >> Change), then reinstall from your driver CD.   This will associate your DAQ driver with CVI 7.1.

Thanks.
