Thanks for the helpful and candid reply. And thanks for understanding my frustrations.
If you are planning to restore some of the old behavior (and or add some label/plot display options), can I make a "cosmetic" request?
When the number of axis divisions is set to zero (and/or the plot area size is fixed) can the labels at the min and max plot edges be left and right justified like they used to be? When those labels are long strings (as in the the case of a full data and time string) centering them wastes a lot of valuable screen space. (or cuts them off if the plot area size stays fixed)
As for my current applications, I could use a graph control, but not easily. I would have to maintain a data history buffer. It is important for the data to scroll. I also (as you may have guessed) use the Time string axis label option in one application and it saves me from having to recalculate the time stamp on the plot on every update. (I do have to periodically sync it back up though). I will likely also run into the graph updating /redraw bug that my coworker found. I don't think the fix for it made it into the 8.5 release from Beta ( http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=beta11&thread.id=64 )
I do like some of the new strip chart features (legends, more channels, etc), but I also liked the old ones that 'broke'.

Greg,
There isn't really a great reason that I can think of, other than the fact that we wouldn't be able to support the full functionality of cursors (specifically, snap-to-point cursors). Besides that, it was just the fact that we haven't received user requests for this, and so we didn't prioritize it as a chart feature.
I'm recording the fact that you are requesting it, and if we receive additional requests, we'll definitely bump it up as a priority.
