I've done exactly that a few times now and had no problems. (CVI 7.0) There may have been some initial complaint about unregistered software, but then Vista takes every opportunity to complain, anyway. Just ignored it and all went well.

Vista does a remarkable job of working with older software, once you have any hardware driver issues resolved.
Part of what makes it work is the "Virtual Store" which accomodates older software's tendency to expect write access to wherever it wants, be it system or program files folders. I'd recommend this article as background so you can, if necessary, adopt development habits that respect the security model in Vista and beyond.
