installation failed

Hi,

I have a problem with the distribution kit build with CVI 9.1.0(427).

My project folder has a subfolder containing USB driver install files and folders.

Using the "Edit Installer", "Files" tab I added the folder and its contents to the application folder under "Program Files".

There are no red text warnings for missing files and the distribution kit builds without a problem.

When I try to install the distribution on another PC, I get an error and an unhelpful message:

"Error

The ColourZONE installation has failed.

Continue?"

Clicking yes or no leads to the same message.

"The installation has failed. Please correct the problem and try again?"

Well I would like to correct it and I have tried again.

The developoment PC is Win XP Prof SP3 and the trial installation PC is running XP Home SP3.

I have used this process several times in the past with previous versions of CVI for the same USB drivers in project subfolders without any problems.

I have been able to install one of these earlyer distributions on the trail PC without a problem.

If anyone can suject where the problem lies I would be grateful.

Cheers,

John

Hi,

Here is a bit more information.

I rebuilt the project and distribution kits with the previous version of CVI (9.0.1). It installs on the test PC without any problems.

I suspect the distribution built with 9.1.0 fails when the installer tries to create the USB driver EXE install file. With the version that works, Windows issues at warning about non-certified software. The version that doesn't work does not issue this warning and seems to fail at approximatly the same point.

Cheers,

John

You can generate a log file by launching setup.exe from the command line like this:

setup.exe /log install_log.txt

Post back the generated log file, and I'll take a look. Also, it may help if you could post the .cds file as well (no need to post the entire project).

Could you try building a distribution (leaving default settings) for one of the installed example programs and installing that distribution on your target machine? This would help determine if the problem is specific to your distribution.

Hi Mert,

Well the plot thickens. I have attached the log and cds files. But, I can't recreate the problem this morning.

There are just two differences I can think of between last week and this:

1. I had successfully installed the application built by CVI 9.0.1 and then removed it using Add/Remove Programs.

2. I had rebooted the PC (although I did try this at one point last week).

After the first success this morning I removed the application and installed it again by double clicking the setup.exe icon, from the same location I had placed it in last week. It still worked fine.

My best guess (and it is just  guess) is that some file was locked last week.

I haven't tried creating and installing a dist kit for an example application. I'm pretty sure it would have worked last week as my actual application worked when I omitted the USB driver folders and files.

Cheers,

John.

If you run into the issue again, please do post back. Glad to hear that it is working now.
