That is a function of the IVI engine and the IVI driver for our hardware.
You will have to set up your 'Virtual Instruments' in MAX under IVI Instruments and Logical Names'. When you install the IVI driver it will set up some "dummy" instruments for a meter, scope, switch etc.
You can use these to see how to set your's up.
They only have classes for meter, scope, switch, power supply and function gen.
You will have to make ALL your calls through the IVI engine for it to work.
