labwindows 8.5 licensing error

Hallo,

i need help as soon as possible. I am trying to reinstall the LabWindowsCVI 8.5. After the installation process i am clicking on the icon CVI and appears the error message: An unexpected licensing error has occured. Contact NI technical support at ni.com/support to resolve this issue.
I have found some issues in the forum, but they was for CVI 8.0, not for 8.5. How i can solve this problem ?
So i am looking for a license manager in the installation directory, there is no such directory at all. So waht i am doing wrong?

Thank you for answer.

Hello Boris,

you'll find the NI-licence-manager in Start-->Programs-->National Instruments --> NI Licence Manager. There you should see an entry for CVI 8.5. And you should have a green small box for a properly licenced version or a yellow for evaluation version. There you can also activate your CVI. If you don't have an entry for CVI or even the NI licence manager please try to reinstall CVI completly.

Hello DianaS,

thank you for the answer. But the problem is im am trying to install LabWindows/CVI 8.5 on the Windows 2000 and after the installation i can not find the NI Licence Manager directory at all. I have reinstall the LabWindows 3 times and i have no idea how to make it work properly.

I think the problem is in Windows, not in LabWindows, so i am programming now on anothe pc.

Thank you.

Hi DianaS,

yes i have administrator privilege for the installation.
I have done steps:
1. Install the LabWindows/CVi 8.5 on Win2000   -> works fine
2. Trying to launch the LabWindows/CVi 8.5 -> works fine
2a I have some problems with my application:  the buttons on the gui could not be pushed or clicked any more, i have changed in my application nothing at all, i have no idea why
3. Uninstall the LabWindows/CVi 8.5 on Win2000   -> works fine
4. Install the LabWindows/CVi 8.5 on Win2000   -> the installation process works fine, but there is no License Manager after installation at all,  neither directory, no the Manager itself.
5.Trying to launch the LabWindows/CVi 8.5   -> labwindows 8.5 licensing error: License Manager has occured some error without error code
6.Uninstall the LabWindows/CVi 8.5 on Win2000   -> the uninstallation process works fine  without any messages

Repeat the steps 4,5,6 4 times with the same result. I could not get to start the labwindows 8.5 any more.

Thank you for you help.

Could you try running the installer with the following commandline to get a log:

setup.exe /log c:\CVIInstlog.txt

Then post the installation log so that way we can look at it and try and figure out why the NI License Manager is not getting installed.

Hello Jeff,
thank you for the answer, i have uninstall the LabWindows CVI 8.5 with the commandline you have posted and than have installed the software again. In the Attachment you will find two files: the first called CVIInstlog_uninstall.txt and the second CVIInstlog.txt
 after the installation process.

Hello,

From the logs this is what I am seeing.

The license manager is installing itself to one of 2 locations:
- C:\Programe\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\
- D:\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\

Is the license manager in one of those location?  The license manager itself is in the Bin directory and is named nilm.exe.

Now I need to know more about the errors that you are seeing.  When you launch CVI 8.5 do you get a specific error about licensing?  Is there not a shortcut for the license manager somewhere in the start menu under "National Instruments"?

Jeff

Hello Jeff,
i have only one error message: the  license manager has occured an unknown error, the application will be closed.
So there is no specific error number or something like that. I am trying to launch the license manager, it starts, but the window shows nothing, and i can not do nothing within it, accept to see the computer code. There is no information about current installation could be displayed.  The complete installation is on the c: drive, not on d:.

May be i should change the path in the registry ?

Thank you,
Boris
