nican CVI error message "Cannot find program file for library"

I just installed today an update from CVI 7 to CVI 8.1, then installed Nican 2.4 for a USB adaptor. I had a problem with the NICAN installation and had to reinstall with help from tech support.

I try to open up this sample project for can in LabWindows 8.1:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI81\samples\nican\Frame API\CAN Receive\CAN Receive.prj

I get this error.

Warning: Cannot find program file for library
Library: 'NI-CAN'
Function Panel File: "c:\Program Files\National Instruiments\CVI81\bin\nicanlfp"

The project will not compile.

I have used CVI for many years but am just getting started with Can. I assume something did not get installed properly or in the correct sequence. Any clues as to what to do?

Well I solved my problem. First I unistalled both CVI 8 and Nican 2.4. I remembered from using Nidaq that CVI must be installed before Nidaq, so that Nidaq will sense that CVI  has been installed. Installing Nican first, then installing CVI, made everything work fine.
